Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, better known as Ari Lennox, is an American artist and performer born in Washington, D.C., who was the first female to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records record label. Her first EP, Pho on October 21 2016, was released on Dreamville Records. Her career began to grow in recognition. Shea Butter Baby released her first studio album 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music online in the year 2012 when she launched her mixtape debut Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in the year 2013. In 2014, Ari Lennox dropped her own single Bound along with her mixtape, which she released herself, Five Finger Discount. She was featured in Omen's Elephant Eyes and from Sweat It Out, July 21st in 2015. In the following year, her music was circulating around the Dreamville team, as J. Cole wanted her to collaborate with him on some references for Rihanna. It was announced on December 8 that she had signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat was her contribution for The Revenge of the Dreamers II album. In the month of October, she released her first EP Pho. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as being an opener on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017, in which she joined by EarthGang. Also, she was featured on the songs Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus along with Bas and her labelmates. Ari Lennox's debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on July 16, 2018. The debut single, called Whipped Cream The album's first single, Whipped Cream dropped on September 5, 2018 with an accompanying music video. On November 9 she dropped two more singles: the 40 Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. On November 13 she then came out with two additional singles, One and Pedigree. One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track she sang together with Cole on the soundtrack to Creed II on November 16th. It then came out as a stand-alone single in February of 2019 to coincide with her debut album. In February of 2019 the music video for the song was released. It has had over 3 million YouTube views in just one week. She was one of the support acts for 6LACK during the From East Atlanta With Love Tour during December 2018.
